Sorry to go back and forth on y'all, (really, it's a mirror of my life right now) but i am closing shop again, this time for an indeterminate amount of time. I've got way too much on my plate right now, too much ebb and flow in my life, and instability does not make for a good spiritual worker. For those for whom this disappoints or inconveniences in any way, i am truly sorry, but it's for the best for both of us, believe me.

Here are some recommendations and other information i posted on an earlier closure announcement:

Please check the Client Section of my website for updates as to my availability. As always, please feel free to send me an email with any questions. It can't hurt, and i may be able to provide what you need or point you in the right direction. You can contact me through my website or through my direct email address: contact@ahighersourcesupply.com
Honestly, i may not get right back to you - my email answering has been spotty at best.

************************************************

In the meantime, if you are in need of spiritual advice or supplies, may i make the following recommendations:

For spiritual supplies, please consider the fine hand-crafted products available at Karma Zain Spiritual Supplies. Whenever there's a certain formula or recipe that i don't make myself, i buy it from here. Miss Karma's oils are phenomenal and i especially love her liquid bath soaps. Take a look around on her eBay store, her website, and her blog.

For spiritual services, i could not give Miss Cat of OriginalNinjaCat a heartier recommendation. She does traditional spellwork and psychic readings. Miss Cat is a straight-shooter, ethical, and very talented. She will not lead you into fantasy land all the while draining you of your hard-earned money. I trust Miss Cat for my own work whenever i need a little outside help, and have used her services as a tarot card reader in the past with fantastic results. Her blog is also filled with great information for the do-it-yourselfer.

Another trusted colleague is Miss Lara. She runs an eBay business selling Lucky Mojo products. Lucky Mojo has set the standard for hoodoo oils and other spiritual supplies, and Miss Lara's eBay store Black Cat Root Shack will get these products to you quickly. She is also available for free phone consultations, and is a lovely person to speak with, non-judgmental, and very helpful. Miss Lara is also available to do altar work and is available for consultation through her other website: Hearth Home Hoodoo.

Here is another new resource in the search for ethical spiritual workers: The Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers. Please give those workers a look-see; they represent the best offerings available to the general public.

All right, y'all. I won't be far, so don't be a stranger. I thank you for your patience and keep checking back for updates.

Kind thanks,
Julia

Darn, how time escapes me. I've been meaning to put up a one-paragraph status update for over a month now and am now just finally getting around to it. There's a lot to report, a lot of changes in my life and therefore my business, but this will suffice for now. More articles, art, and various offerings will be forthcoming.
So, basically I am open for business as before. I'm filling orders, making mojo bags, crafting amulets, and making custom candles. I've just been doing so quietly without posting much here or on my website. Here is a sparse run-down of my current availabilty and status:

The Higher Sourse Shared Prayer Grant is on hiatus for the time being. Please feel free though to send your prayer requests through the candle ministry section of my website.

I am still keeping my case load kind of light. Please don't be offended if I refer you to another worker. I'm also taking a bit longer than usual to fill orders. If I ever get around to keeping my website current, you can check my client page for my exact availabilty and wait times.

I am no longer offering sachet powders to the general public. Sorry about that, folks. They are just too much work for too little compensation in all honesty. I also seem to go through a grinder every six months which adds to the overhead. If you're dying to have a certain formula made into a powder, you can certainly request it; it will just be treated as a custom order.

I am culling out some formulas that either don't sell well or are duplicative. I am going to focus my attention on only a couple dozen or so oil formulas instead of 50-plus. Again, I will keep the recipes on hand and you're welcome to request them. It will just be a custom order is all. I will make a separate posting here in the near future listing all the oils that are being cut, possibly with a clearance sale.

I am going to be taking most weekends off from online client work - which basically means email. I will try to answer all of my emails Monday through Friday. If you send me a message on Friday, please expect a reply at the beginning of the next work week. This won't be a hard rule, but it is a new practice I am implementing.

So, bottom line is that I am back in action, ready for any questions, requests, feedback, and available for orders and consultations. I'm also open to any suggestions for article topics, spells, and/or recipes that you would like to read about here.

Thanks for your patience and through my closing and re-opening. Thanks to my dear online friends for your supportive words of encouragement. To my clients and prospectice clients, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Contact@ahighersourcesupply.com
www.aHigherSourceSupply.com

Damiana has also traditionally been used as abortive and should not be taken if pregnant.

Recipe #1A
Time: One month & 10 Days; Strength: Medium.

This is a fine recipe for an aphrodisiacal cordial of Damiana. For best results, take 1 or 2 cordial glasses of the beverage nightly. The taste is exquisite!

Supplies: 1 ounce of Damiana leaves; 1 pint of Vodka; Sun-tea jar; 2 Coffee filters; ¾ pint of water (distilled or spring water); ½ to 1 cup of honey.

Soak 1 ounce of Damiana leaves with 1 pint of Vodka for 5 days in the jar.

Pour off the liquid, strain, and filter through a conical paper or coffee filter.

Soak remaining alcohol-drenched leaves with 3/4 pint of distilled or spring water in the jar, for another 5 days.

Pour off the liquids, strain, and filter as before.

Warm water extracts to 160 degrees F then dissolve it in a 1/2 to 1 cup of honey.

Combine alcoholic and aqueous extractions.

Then let it age for one month. During the aging, sediment will form as the liqueur clarifies.

The sediment is harmless, but you may wish to siphon the clear liqueur from it.

Recipe #1B
Time: One month & 2 Days; Strength: Medium.

Primary effects: Aphrodisiac and marijuana-like euphoria (for men and women) lasting about an hour and a half. It is best if taken half hour before sexual intercourse.

Supplies: 1 ounce of Damiana leaves; 1 pint of Vodka; Sun-tea jar; Jelly strainer; ¾ pint of water (distilled or spring water); ½ to 1 cup of honey.

Follow step 2 (Recipe 1A), except this time, place the jar under sunlight for one day to brew the first stage.

Follow step 3 (Recipe 1A), except this time, strain through a jelly strainer (without a coffee filter).

Follow step 4 (Recipe 1A), except this time, place the jar under sunlight for one day to brew the second stage.

Follow steps 5 through 8 (Recipe 1A).

Follow step 9 (Recipe 1A), except this time, use the jelly strainer to strain the honey rather than siphoning.

Recipe #2
Time: One month & 17 Days; Strength: High.

Small quantities of liqueur are excellent for any ritual oriented toward Sex Magic. Damiana can be used as a sacrament to improve and tone sexuality.

Supplies: 1.5 oz. Damiana leaf (dried); 375 mL Pure Grain Alcohol + 360 mL water (or 1/5 grain vodka, 90 proof or higher); 525 mL water; 1 cup of honey; 1 quart Mason jar.

Soak Damiana leaves in Vodka or Grain Alcohol + water in a 1 quart Mason jar.

Let stand for five to seven days away from direct sunlight.

Filter out the Damiana leaves.

Save both the liquid (alcohol extract) and the wet leaves.

Return the soaked Damiana leaves to the Mason jar.

Add 525 mL of water.

Let stand for five to ten days away from direct sunlight.

Filter off the leaves and put them into your compost pile.

Save the water extract.

Heat the water extract to 160 degrees F. and add 1 cup of honey to the hot extract.

Stir to dissolve the honey, and then combine the honey + water extract with the alcohol extract.

Allow the bottle to stand undisturbed in a cool dark place for one month.

Siphon off the clear liquid, leaving the cloudy matter which can be discarded or allowed to settle again.

The Damiana liqueur is now ready for consumption, but is best aged for several months to several years.

Recipe #3
Time: 10 Minutes; Strength: Low.

A common way to take Damiana is as a tea. Consume no more than one cup of Damiana tea, or one dropper-full of the tincture, or two capsules daily, so as to avoid stressing the liver, since its effects are cumulative. This is made by:

Supplies: 2 to 4 grams of dried Damiana leaves; 8 ounces of water; Coffee filter.

Add 2 to 4 grams of dried leaves to about 8 ounces of boiling water, for 5 minutes.

To remove solid particles, strain with a coffee filter.

Then cool, and drink in the evening.

Up to 3 cups of this tea may be consumed daily.

For significant results, it is recommended to use it continuously over a two week period.

Recipe #4
Time: 10 Minutes; Strength: N/A.

Damiana can make a really fine smoke if used in a water pipe. For a marijuana-like high, a blend known as Yuba Gold is:

Supplies: 4 parts Damiana leaf; 4 parts Scullcap herb; 1/2 part Lobelia herb; 4 parts Passionflower herb; 1 part Spearmint leaf.

Combine all the supplies.

Orgasmic Punch
2 bottles of white rum
2/3 liter of dry white wine
1 cup Triple Sec
Juice of 10 oranges
Juice of 6 lemons
20-ounce can of pineapple chunks, drained
1 cup of sugar
2 vanilla beans, split
2 nutmegs, ground
2 oz of muira puama tincture
1-2 oz of damiana tincture
2 whole oranges studded with cloves
A handful of fresh or dried rose petals (optional)

Place the alcohol, juices, pineapple, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, muira puama, and damiana in a large punch bowl and stir well until sugar is dissolved. Carefully float the clove-studded oranges in the punch, and immediately before serving sprinkle with rose petals. Note: the essentials are the damiana and muira puama. Experiment with the rest to find what tastes good to you.

Vanilla Aphrodisiac Smoothie

1 cup milk
15 whole cloves
15 cardamom pods
2 cinnamon sticks
1 vanilla pod, split
1 cup vanilla frozen yogurt
honey to taste

Place milk, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Scrape in vanilla seeds from pod. Heat milk but do not boil. Remove from heat and allow to cool, then refrigerate until chilled. Strain milk into a blender goblet and discard spices. Add frozen yogurt and and honey to taste. Blend until smooth and frothy. Delicious!

For April 2009, i decided to offer up my personal favorite - Crown of Success Oil. This is my go-to oil, my I-need-a-miracle oil, a versatile helper. Why use Crown of Sucess, you might ask, when good all-purpose formulas are easily available such as Special Oil Number 20, Petition Oil, and the like? I know it's just a personal preference, but i use Crown of Success for any number of things because, when you boil down most situations, almost everything can be benefited by a little success.

For all supply orders this month from A Higher Source Spiritual Supply, a free 1.5 ml. vial of Crown of Success will be included in the order, free of charge.

This formula is also dear to me because it is the first one i ever created, and today's recipe is very similar to my early attempts. The oil just worked so well from day one that it only needed small tweaks. My Crown of Success oil also looks different than others since it's colored naturally by ground Sandalwood. I think that little detail lends the oil an extra oomph of specialness.

Crown of Success Oil is traditionally used for academic, career, financial, and personal success. You can see how super versatile it is. It also lends itself nicely to blending - mixing a little Crown of Success with Love Come To Me for a powerfully successful night on the town, or how about Crown of Success combined with Gambler's Luck? Really, the possiblities abound.

This oil also has its own unique application. You get some of the oil on the fingers of your dominant hand, hold those fingers to the bridge of your nose at about the third eye level, visualize and pray for your upcoming success, and then open up your fingers as you run them over your forehead, up through the crown of your head, thus anointing your head with success. Some people speak a blessing as they do so such as: "May all my works be crowned with success."

In addition to anointing your head with Crown of Success Oil, you can use it in many other ways: dress candles, amulets, and furniture; add some to a bath or to bath salts; put a few drops into your conditioner or liquid bath soap to infuse your body; wear the oil as a magical perfume before an important event; mix a few drops of the oil in some cornstarch and make your own powder with which to dress documents and business cards; and basically use the oil whenever you are in need of a little miracle.

If your results are like mine, Crown of Success will be so useful to you, you'll want to carry the little vial around with you. I carry some with me in tis own little carrying case, and i find many opportunites to use this formula and be benefited by its presence.

Here is a sampling of Hyatt material on the subject:
(Thanks to the Hyatt Yahoo group for all the spells out of the volumes i don't currently own)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9727. Whenevah yo' be rid [writ?] out, dey done be rid yo' out - yo'
know, outdo's an' yo' gotta move. Dey done rid yo' out, yo' know - de
officah rids yo' out an' yo' gotta move. [Evidently your few possessions
are on the sidewalk out in the street.] Yo' take three nails an' yo' go
tuh de do' lak dat an' nail 'em down [demonstrates] right in de middle
of de do'. (Right underneath the saddle that goes across the door.) Yes,
an' nail 'em down in dere an' call De Name of de Fathah an' let chew
stay on dere. Yo' won't have tuh move. Ah know dat fo' a fac' 'cuz I did
dat mahself. (You put them right down [I demonstrate] where that board
goes over - over that saddle of the door.) Yes.
[Memphis, Tenn., (1541), 2787:12.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Whenevah yo' git into a home dat have fireplaces - sometimes yo' livin' in a room an' dey wanta make yo' move out of it. Yo' go dere an' yo' scratch all in der wit a dry stick one day, an' yo' thresh in dere de next day wit a green stick - in back of dat [fire]place. Den de third day yo' take up dat sut [soot]. De ole people used to do dat, dake dat smut an' jes' add a teaspoonful of cookin' salt to, say, a big spoonful of smut out de back of dat chimley, but try tuh git a big spoonful out of dere. An' dey used tuh claim dat dey couldn't make yo' move. Well, ah knows in dem days dey did make yo' move. But every time dat dey'd go out dey'd hide dat bottle somewhere in de room, an' long as dat sut would stay dere, dey'd nevah make yo' move. But it must be threshed by a green stick an' a dry stick

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ON A PIECE OF BROWN PAPER,
WRITE YOUR LANDLORD'S NAME AND YOUR NAME
THREE TIMES EACH, IN EACH CORNER OF THE PAPER,
SLANTING TOWARDS THE CENTER.
PUT SOME SUGAR AND SOME CINNAMON INTO THE PAPER,
AND FOLD IT, CORNERS FIRST, TOWARDS YOU.
AS YOU FOLD THE PAPER, PROCLAIM THAT YOU DO SO
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST.
OBTAIN FOUR BRICKS.
ON THESE BRICKS, WRITE YOUR OWN NAME IN THE SAME WAY,
THREE TIMES IN EACH CORNER, SLANTING TOWARDS THE CENTER.
PREPARE A PIECE OF PAPER
BY ROLLING IT WITH A LITTLE SUGAR AND STUFF.
MAKE FOUR OF THESE PREPARED PAPERS.
PUT ONE ON EACH BRICK,
AND SEW THEM BRICKS INTO A CLOTH COVERING.
PLACE ONE BRICK IN EACH CORNER OF YOUR HOUSE.
- TO PREVENT BEING EVICTED
(I'm in a house and they want to move me out of there. Is there something I can do so that they can't move me out of there?)
Yes...let it be that square.
[What happened?]
(I didn't understand. You write those three names on each brick or just one brick? You said you were using these red bricks, weren't you?)
No, ah'll tell yo' 'bout de bricks. Yo' write dat papah lak ah'm tellin' yo'.
(Let's begin at the beginning. You get that piece of brown paper, you say?)
Yes, an' write dey name three times. Write yorn three times.
(Write your own name?)
Three times heah, three times dere an' three times dere. An' yo' git some granulated sugah.
(You write the name three times from each corner down into the center. All right.)
An' yo' git chew some pulverize, granulated sugah an' yo' put jis' a little bit in dere wit cinnamon an' yo' fold dat papah [demonstrates], "In the Name of de Father' - see, dat's good, good fo' yo'self, yo' wouldn't do good fo' anybody else. Yo' fold dat papah, "In de Name of de Father, de Son an' de Holy Ghost."
(While you are folding each of these corners into the center, you say, "In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.")
Yes. An' aftah yo' git it folded up nice - yo' kin fold it in de cornahs, but chew kin fold it small lak dis aftah yo' git de cornahs folded. Now, yo' turn it roun' small as yo' want, yo' see. Now, yo' git these fo' bricks.
(You get four red bricks.)
(You write your own name in the same manner, that is three times in each corner to the center, and write it on each of the four bricks.)
Now, yo' don't have tuh put no sugah on de bricks cuz it ain't gon'a stay on de bricks, yo' see. Den yo' take dis little bit of sugah an' stuff an' yo' roll it in a small piece of papah, an' yo' git chew a piece of newspapah or any othah kind of papah an' aftah yo' fix dem, yo' sew 'em in a cloth. Yo' evah seed a place wit a brick behin' de do' sewed in a nice silk cloth? Yo' sew dem bricks up in a nice piece of cloth an' yo' put one in each corner of yore building, inside of de house.
(Like a doorstop.)
Yeah, jis' lak a do'stop. Yo' kin git a beautiful piece of cloth an' jis' sew dat up in each corner an' set dat in de corner. Wit dat brick dere yo'll sho' not be moved.
(That brick is that you won't be moved out of that house, but you have to put this package on each one of those bricks?)
Put dat package on each one dem bricks.
(And the landlord can't move out yout or no one can move you out.)
No one cain't come an' move yo' out dat house.
[Algiers, LA; Informant #1598; E171:3-E182:9 = 3004-3015.]
I started going through my magic stuff today and taking inventory of what i have, and i realize that i have a whole lot of unsold amulets.  They're all sad and neglected, feeling unwanted and unclaimed *sniff*  Since i'm not the most organized gal in the world, i didn't know they had been collecting for the past two years.  So, i feel that the time is right for them to leave my posession and go and meet their rightful owners.
Now is a great time to make me an offer on anything that strikes you or maybe something you once liked but was too expensive.  I'll post their original asking price and i'll also post the minimum price i'd consider selling the particular piece for.  Make me an offer somewhere in that range, and you'll have yourself a new, handmade, super special amulet all your own!  Every one of these little guys will fit in a small Priority Mail box which ships for $4.85.  I only take PayPal.  All amulets can of course be blessed for their new owners as well, free of charge.
DRILLED NUTMEG
I have ones made specifically for gambling and ones for money-drawing.  These are hollowed-out Nutmegs, stuffed with a mixture of herbs and roots, Lodestone and Pyrite bits, filled with blessed candlewax, and sealed with sealing wax.  These sweeties are oiled and filled with love.
Originally i was selling them with a packet of herbs, a mojo bag, and a 1 dram bottle of condition oil for $20.  I'll sell just a Nutmeg minus the accessories for $7 minimum.  Check my blog under Amulets for more Nutmeg photos and information
*SOLD* MONEY-DRAWING SEA NUT AMULET
These are my favorite amulet so far.  They're just precious!  I have the green one with the dollar sign left.  I was originally selling these for $20 or $25, i can't remember.  I included a vial on condition oil.  I'll let this one go for a minimum of $15 and still throw in the oil.
*SOLD*  EMBELISHED RABBIT'S FOOT
This one could one day be a collector's item (no, probably not)!  It's my very first embelished rabbit's foot and very first becharmed amulet.  I think it's very cool.  I ran it on eBay at a time when no one of taste was shopping for amulets.  I think it's time has come.  This particular foot has a tiny vial REAL four-leaf clover floating in Red Fast Luck Oil - i mean how cool is that?!  There's horseshoes, evil eye beads, dice, milagros, a cowrie shell, a Job's tear, amongst others.  This amulet comes  with a 1 dram vial of Van Van oil and is complete in a red mojo bag.  I think i originally asked $30 for this charm, but i'll take $15 at a minimum.
~ SOLD ~ SAFE TRAVEL EVIL EYE VIAL AMULET ~ SOLD ~
I love these!  This is a teeny vial, filled with 9 different protection and travel herbs, roots, and curios, which are then topped off with Safe Travel Oil.  This amulet is designed to dangle from your rearview mirror and protect you while on the road.  The amulet is made of glass and comes with a 1 Dram vial of your choice of Safe Travel Oil or another protection oil.  I originally offered this for sale at $25, but i'll take $15 for it now.
FIERY WALL OF PROTECTION CROSS VIAL AMULET
This is a similar vial amulet, shaped like a cross, and filled with an assortment of protection herbs and roots as well as Fiery Wall of Protection Oil.  It has a great orange color and it capped off with an evil eye bead.  This is a nice looking pendant.  Again, this comes with a 1 dram bottle of Fiery Wall of Protection Oil.  I originally asked $25 for it, but i'll now be happy to sell it for $15.
HAND-SEWN VIAL CASE
These are the most precious things ever, and if you missed my run of selling these babies on eBay, here's your chance to get the last one.  This is the last case i have left after selling about 30 of them last year.  These cases are entirely hand-sewn using vintage and repurposed fabric.  Inside they snuggly hold four vials of condition oil.  This is a practical and stylish way to carry some oils with you.  This one is colored with fresh, citrusy colors which remind me of spring.  It's all sweetness and light until you open her up and see her liner is blood red.  Love it!  Surely this case will ressonate with someone.  You also get to choose four condition oils to fill it with.  Choose from my almost 50 different formulas!  I also include one emply vial for you to fill with whatever you desire.  These vial cases make great presents.  I love them so much, i would keep selling them except the profit margin is super low and filling teeny glass vials is a pain.  I used to sell them for $24, but would part with it for $15.
  These are for the blue ribbon winner in your life or someone who needs a little extra luck.  These are another of my charm-drop amulets, this time on sterling silver earwires.  Included are beautiful pewter ribbon and dollar sign charms, Indian head coin charms for protection of your luck, a set of dice, Abrus seeds, and glass beads in red, green, and of course, blue.  Originally these were listed for $20, but i'll take $11 for them now.
There's more, but i'll save them for later.
Energy Work for Spellcasters 101, Part I
Pick up almost any modern book on the occult or visit almost any magic-themed website and you will surely see references to energy work. Many spells use at least a modicum of natural energy manipulation; some are based entirely upon it. The specific terms energy work or energy manipulation might not be used, but other words such as "charge," as in charge an amulet with your intent; "direct," as in direct energy towards your target; "project," as in project a circle of energy around you; and "program," as in program your concentrated energy with your will. These all refer to the body of techniques encompassed by the descriptor "energy work."
So far, the majority of my writings have been folk-magic based: hoodoo, faith healing, and intercessory prayer, on top of practical magic and spiritual counseling advice. You won't find a lot of references to energy work in folk magic. Powers are attributed to God or Spirit or come from naturally-occurring sources such as those present in plants, animals, and minerals along with a dose of positive thinking - maybe. But a quick survey of modern occult techniques will reveal how paramount energy work is in those traditions. You'll see psionics, shielding, constructs and programming, casting a circle, distance healing, servitors, energy projection through magical tools, and the like.
Unfortunately, though, there isn't a whole lot of beginner how-to information on the very basics, step one. Many of the spell instructions just assume that you know how to project and shape energy and how to infuse items with specific powers. Instructions are glossed over or are not present, and many beginners are left to go it alone, feeling confused and somewhat incompetent or inadequate .
Now, I haven't practiced circle casting in close to ten years, but I do remember my early efforts in "getting it right." By reading many of the popular how-to books of the time, I was led to beleive that manipulating energy was simple: just point your finger or a wand or a knife, and then viola, a perfect ray of blue energy was emitted, ready for you to shape it at your will. When it didn't *just happen* I would then visualize - and as I'll get into later, just because you visualize energy doesn't necessarily mean it's there, especially for beginners. In sum, I found modern occult, especially Neo-Pagan literature to be lacking in good, solid instructional material on energy work basics, most notably how to sense energy.
Even if you don't practice European-based witchcraft, Wiccan or Neo-Pagan magic, or other popular energy-heavy techniques, I still believe cultivating these abilities is a worthwhile endeavor. Using my own magical practice as an example, I use energy work every time I work a spell and I most definitely don't work within a witchcraft tradition. As examples: I project my intention, my desired outcome, and my prayers as "programed" energy directly into an object, usually a candle or other spell ingredients such as a palmful of oil or a bowl of herbs. Every time I blend herbs together, while I'm working them with my fingers, I'm projecting energy and prayers into them. The same goes with amulets, mojo bags, and talismans you either wear or display in your home. Sensitive people can literally feel the stored energy in an object; sometimes you can feel a pulse, others see colors or get strong mental pictures and intuitions. Although I don't regularly case a circle of protection, it's a nice skill to have when needed - again, all examples of energy work.
Now, the examples I just mentioned are intermediate and advanced techniques. Unless you are a born natural, you have to work on these skills diligently just as you would any other more mundane skill. It is my intention to write a four- or five-part series of articles devoted to the foundation of energy work: how to cultivate a sense of personal energy and the first baby steps into projecting and programing this energy. From this foundation you can dive into more technical and advanced energy subjects.
(Now, of course the usual disclaimer: This is just *my* way of doing things. This may vary widely from *your* way of working with energy. When I instruct people face-to-face on energy cultivation skills, I see firsthand how differently people learn. These next few articles are representative of what has been helpful to most but not all. Some people will never feel their personal energy, and that's okay. It is happening, though, whether you feel it or not. At a minimum, if what I say is totally counterintuitive or you absolutely can't get it to work for you or you vehemently disagree with my viewpoints, then maybe this discussion will be the impetus for your own search into what does work for you - and that's a-okay!)
First you have to sense energy before you can begin to project and shape it. This just makes sense - it's like first a sculptor has to feel and perceive the clay before he starts to work with it and shape it. As obvious and commonsense as this sounds, this basic step is usually omitted in instructional occult literature and quickly glossed over in alternative healing manuals (although there are some great resources out there which I'll share later - if I don't forget!). This omission gives the incorrect assumption that people should be born with these inherent abilities, that they're too basic to mention, and this is false. Many people readily learn how to sense their own personal energy when keyed-in to it open-mindedly, but it IS something that needs to be practiced and developed. You can't skip this step if you are to be a proficient energy worker.
Exactly what constitutes personal energy is beyond the scope of this article. There are so many different energetic theories and different types of energies, you would need volumes of books to adequately address the question of what personal energy is. But for our purposes, in the most minimal of nutshells, personal energy is a mixture of the energy our body manufactures itself blended with energy from the environment (I told you it was a simple definition, right?).
Most traditions will agree that there are parts of your energetic physiology which act as a battery or a storehouse of personal energy. Most will also agree that a healthy person is constantly circulating energy within themselves from the environment. In Chinese medicine the main entrance paths for environmental energy entering your body are the top of your head, your perineum, and the middle of the soles of your feet. Downward energy, sometimes called Heaven energy, enters your head and moves through the centerline of your body and through energetic pathways called meridians. Upward flowing energy, called Earth energy, flows upward into your body through the soles of your feet. These two main types of energy combine in your body - think yin-yang - and are circulated throughout.
This is a major simplification and doesn't take into account all the myriad of energy gates in a person's body and all the different ways energy is moved and exchanged. Also, when we use the term "personal energy," we are really talking about this blending of environmental AND personal energy, so unless you way over-exert yourself in your practice or are in poor physical condition to begin with, you shouldn't have to worry about depleting your energy reserves. A healthy person has energy moving through them at all times.
If you decide to pursue the study of energy work, it is quite possible to develop quite a bit of sensitivity and be able to differentiate types of energy, their sources, and how they move through your body. This is a bit advanced for our purposes, though. The main goal for any beginner student and the focus of these articles is to first sense and feel the energy from our own body. Once success is achieved using these baby steps, it will be a launching pad for further exploration: sensing energy on others, sensing energy from plants and stones, manipulating your own energy and using it for such purposes as creating a protective circle of energy, charging objects, and programming energetic forms. Others use energy manipulation for healing purposes as well. It really is a broad and diverse topic.
So Part I is a general introduction. In Part II, I plan on introducing the first step to basic energy cultivation: proper alignment.
In this ritual you will spiritually prepare a framed photograph of yourself.  This blessed photograph will become a focal point for self-improvement work, self-healing work, and self-blessing work.  Place it on your altar and light candles in front of it - honor yourself.  I don't know of a single person who wouldn't benefit from this type of work.  You can also tailor this working to bless a loved one:  someone in need of healing, someone you're worried about, or just someone you care about.
You will need:
~ A nice photograph of yourself - just you
~ A frame with a sturdy backing that is relatively easy to remove and is not too tight, a wood frame is best
~ Condition Oil of your choosing (consider Blessing, Holy Oil, Bless My Heart, Healing, Happy Heart and Soul, depending on your specific need)
~ A selection of 3-7 herbs, listed below, a small pinch each
~ A holy card - optional
~ A piece of paper and pen
~ An envelope
~ A white vigil light candle, votive candle, or some taper candles
~ Incense suitable for blessing or healing - optional (choose a condition incense of the same type as your oil or you can also burn Frankincense, Copal, Benzoin, Rose, or Sandalwood)
Here's a small list of herbs which are appropriate for self-blessing and healing; choose three to seven, mixing to meet your unique needs:
Angelica Root, small bits or powder (blessing, protection)
Flax Seeds (blessing)
Rose Petals (self-love)
Marjoram (good for depression)
Frankincense (blessing)
Sage (self-confidence)
Burdock Root, small bits or powder (healing)
Goldenseal Root, small bits or powder (healing)
Grains of Paradise (blessing, protection, general well-being)
Life Everlasting (healing)
Althea Root, small bits or powder (healing, blessing)
Yarrow (self-confidence)
Rosemary (women's well-being and protection)
Violet (healing from relationships)
Master Root, small bits or powder (self-confidence)
Passionflower (blessing, self-love)
Benzoin Resin (well-being, happiness)
Sandalwood powder (spiritual peace)
Blessing Sachet Powder
Healing Sachet Powder
Any other complementary Sachet Powder
The work:
Prepare a space for your blessed photograph.  Fortunately this spell is very "low profile"; once your picture frame is prepared, no one will know it's been fixed.  Ideally this ritual will be just a part of long-term self-improvement of healing work, maybe a good thing to start with, and therefore i'd recommend setting aside a special place dedicated for this work.  A self-healing altar would be wonderful, a place to pray and meditate and focus on nourishing your Spirit.  Even if it's just a section of mantle space, that will work fine too.  You want to be able to burn a candle in front of your picture.  Fresh flowers are nice, as is anything that means peace and healing to you.
Remove the frame backing from the picture frame.  Place your photo in the frame as usual and set it aside.
Take up your piece of paper and write on it your wish for yourself.  It can be a healing wish or whatever's relevant.  I'd suggest an affirmation.  Speak in the present tense and speak like your goal has come to pass.  Research good affirmations on the internet if need be.  The book "Miracle Prayer" by Susan Shumsky is a rich source of affirmations and healing prayers.  You can also make a list of your good qualities and qualities you are working to improve.  Keep it positive, though.  Instead of writing:  "I wish i liked myself more,"  write: "Every day i like myself more and more," that kind of thing.  If you have a holy card, like a Saint Michael card, you can write on the back of the card or write on the back of the holy card and a piece of paper.  What you choose to write is not set in stone.  It will vary based upon your need.
Some of my favorite affirmations for spiritual healing (from Lessons in Truth, by H. Emily Cady):
"I am a child or manifestation of God, and every moment God's love, life, wisdom, and power flows into and through me.  I am one with God and am governed by these laws of Spirit."
"I am Spirit: perfect, holy, harmonious.  Nothing can hurt me or make me sick or afraid, for Spirit is God, and God cannot be sick or hurt or afraid.  I manifest my real Self through this body now."
"God works in me to will and do whatever God wishes me to do, and God cannot fail."
Your affirmations can be secular as well.  It's just fine to make a list of all the qualities you are seeking to nurture.  Just be sure to own them and stay positive.  If in doubt, write them as a list of "I am" statements:  I am healed, I am blessed, I am happy, I am energized, I am perfect just as I am, I accept myself just as I am, I forgive myself, and so on.
Fold up this piece of paper and/or holy card and insert it into the envelope.
Mix a pinch of each of your herbs in a small bowl.  Add the powders too if you're using them.  Get a little bit of condition oil on your fingers, and use your oily fingers to mix the herbs, blending them together and powdering and breaking apart the dried leafy herbs into smaller bits.  While you do so, speak to the spirit of the herbs telling them your need and asking for assistance.  Make this a kind of prayer of you're so moved.
Add a pinch or two of blended herbs to the envelope with your wish paper.  Shake the envelope around so the herbs are evenly distributed.  You can open up your folded wish paper inside the envelope to get some of the herbs inside it.  Tuck the flap of the envelope inside, closing it up.  Hold the envelope in between your palms held up to your heart in a prayer position.  Pray and affirm your healing need.  Visualize yourself whole and happy and holy.  If you can send energy, send it into the envelope.  If you can't physically sense energy, know that it's happening any way!
When it feels right, set the envelope inside the picture frame right behind your photograph.  Fasten the frame backing.  You should not be able to see the envelope behind your picture and it should not bulge out.
Oil the picture frame with a touch of condition oil.  While you do so affirm that this is a blessed picture, and that the blessings invested onto this photo are thus transferred on to you.  Set the photograph in its special place.
It's nice to burn candles in front of this framed photograph.  Sundays are a great time to do this, and it really makes for the beginning of a nice ritual honoring yourself.  Anytime you wish to make a change for the better, it's nice to solidify this with some candlework done in front of your blessed photo.  For general maintenance work, i like to take a spiritual blessing bath at the first sighting of the new moon each month.  I will then light a candle in my honor.  Incorporate this work into your life as you see fit.
Right after creating this blessed photograph, light a candle in front of it to further cement your efforts and further bless the photo/yourself.  Choose a seven-day vigil light for ongoing work or a simple taper.  Dress a taper candle with condition oil and roll it in any leftover herb blend.  If it's a glass-encased vigil light or votive, add a few drops of condition oil and a teeny tiny pinch of herbs to the top.  Light the candle and pray.  It's quite nice to burn incense as well.
As i mentioned, this ritual readily adapts itself depending on the need.  Use it for a spouse sent on deployment overseas.  Use it for a friend who's going through chemotherapy.  Use it for a family member who's struggling with addiction.  Use if for a friend going through a difficult divorce.  Use it for a child who's having a hard time at school.  I have found this to be a very practical working which is also very profound.  You would use a photo of the target person - not yourself - and then all you change up are the herbs, maybe the oil, and of course the affirmations and wishes written on the paper.
Any questions or thoughts?  Need herb suggestions?  Give me a shout...
(I got a version of this ritual from The Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork radio show put on by Dr. Kioni and cat yronwode.  I'm not sure who specifically gave it out or which broadcast or topic, but i sure am grateful.)
Answer:  There are a lot of resources available online from which to learn more about hoodoo. Here are my recommendations, all available to you for free - these are sites i reference every day and can provide a wonderful education all on their own.
Read Hoodoo in Theory and Practice online:
http://www.luckymojo.com/hoodoo.html
The Lucky Mojo Rootwork Hour, Free audio recordings of FANTASTIC radio shows all on the topic of hoodoo, spells, spiritual work, and common problems and situations:
http://hoodoorootwork.blogspot.com/
http://www.luckymojo.com/radioshow.html#webcast
Free Intro to Hoodoo podcast with catherine yronwode as the guest: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/MonaMagick
Join and study these Yahoo groups: Conjure, Rootworkers, and Harry Hyatt (HyattSpells)
Check their book lists too for great suggestions
Blog and Hoodoo for Everyone Message Board from Ninja Cat Spellworker: http://originalninjacat.typepad.com/my_weblog/
Lucky Mojo's forum: http://forum.luckymojo.com/
Karma Zain's Blog: http://karmazain.livejournal.com/
These are my favorite internet resources.
Also just go out into the world and ask people about their native folk practices and superstitions - what they or their grandparents did for luck and protection, how they could get someone to marry them, how to get pregnant, how to get annoying people to leave them alone, that kind of thing.  If you're lucky enough to live nearby a candle shop, then frequent it.  Buy things, ask for suggestions, and overhear advice being given.  If you don't live by a candle shop, maybe there's a botanica.
Did i miss any other online resources?  Surely there are others.
Announcing The Higher Source Shared Prayer Grant
I am delighted to announce a new opportunity being offered by my company - The Higher Source Shared Prayer Grant. This grant provides spiritual work to people who have a healing need and who would otherwise be unable to afford the services. It is a tremendous honor to be involved in such a beneficent program.  Please read on for more information:
What is the Shared Prayer Grant?
The Shared Prayer Grant is a healing opportunity made possible through generous love offerings from an anonymous benefactor. This grant is a living example of faith in action, hope, community, and the reciprocity of receiving and sharing.
Spiritual work costs money. In a perfect world all healing would be free of charge and given without limit, but in today's world, many times we are limited by our budgets. In my experience, it is oftentimes the people who are in the greatest need who are unable to afford the work which could be of such assistance.
The Higher Source Shared Prayer Grant offers financial assistance for applicants who find themselves in such situations. If accepted, the recipient's spiritual work, for a set period of time, will be completely financed by the grant. This is a wonderful opportunity to get the prayer and support one needs to make positive changes in their life, especially when this type of work is outside the grantee's means.
Who can qualify?
Anyone can qualify if they are over the age of eighteen and if they meet minimum household income criteria.
Household income information is given via the honor system, and any financial misrepresentation on behalf of the applicant is a huge violation of trust and will not be tolerated. This said, there will be no background investigation to prove financial worthiness, and representations made by applicants will be trusted. Please do not abuse this form of spiritual giving. If you can, in good faith, afford your own spiritual work ($25-$200), please do not apply for the Shared Prayer Grant. You will be robbing a truly needy person from this holy opportunity.
The focus of the Shared Prayer Grant is on healing, although the term healing is a subjective one which can be broadly defined. Some examples of healing work include: self-esteem and self-worth issues, moving on after a bad relationship, depression and hopelessness, illness and injury, finding a fulfilling job, opening up opportunities, healing abuse, working towards a dream, meeting a supportive partner, moving past financial devastation, and harmony in relationships. Some life circumstances which are decidedly not for healing would be: gambling, cursing, breaking up relationships, and controlling.
Please contact me to discuss your specific situation if you have your doubts as to whether it's appropriate for this grant. Almost any situation can be re-thought and re-worked, and a higher, more healing-focused, road can be taken. I do not judge and i keep strict confidence.
What does it include?
The Shared Prayer Grant includes focused prayer and candlework for one week or so, plus continued prayer support for as long as you desire. The candlework is catered to the individual and their unique set of circumstances, but it is most often composed of a tandem (or double-up) 7-Day vigil light setting with other work combined if and when the situation dictates.
Although i will work closely with the grantee, the specific type of spiritual work is at my sole discretion. This grant is not a gift certificate or some sort of shopping spree.  Please refer to the Services Page on my website for more information about the types of spiritual candleburning i offer.
The most profound part of the Shared Prayer Grant is not the candlework, though. It is the small and anonymous community of supporters who are joining in prayer, silently encouraging each other - hence the name, Shared Prayer.
Whenever a new grantee is accepted, about once or twice a month, an anonymous prayer list email is sent to the Shared Prayer supporters. This email list is one-way only; there's no email contact back and forth between members, and everyone's email address remains hidden. The grantee is allowed to remain unnamed, but their prayer request - their goal statement for their healing work - is shared with the group so that everyone may join in prayer and add their silent support in affirming the grantee's vision. Each grantee then has a whole team of people on their side, encouraging them. Powerful!
After each grantee's period of spiritual work ends, their request stays on the list until directed otherwise. All they are asked to do is to participate in the anonymous email community and join in prayer for each future member of the Shared Prayer Grant. In this manner a circle of reciprocity is experienced: first, one receives support, they are prayed for and encouraged, and then they give support, praying for and silently encouraging others.
Prayer is how you define it. I could never dream of putting a definition on personal prayer. Therefore, i cannot require that you pray for others a specific way - there is no right or wrong way. That is for you to discover, although praying for others, no matter the form, is a profound act of love and a deeply worthwhile act. There exists no limitation in regard to religion or spirituality; all open-minded people are welcome. If you're interested in prayer support, you may also join the anonymous Shared Prayer email list without being a grantee or applicant. Just Contact Me at my Website.
What are the requirements?
You must be over eighteen.
You must have a valid email address.
You must agree to everything in the Terms of Service and the Disclaimer on my website.
You must be unable to afford this work and meet basic financial eligibility.
You must have a healing need - healing being defined subjectively.
You must be open to continuing on the anonymous Shared Prayer email list and intend to give your best effort to praying for and supporting future grantees - please do not just receive this gift and not make an effort to give back. Sometimes it's not possible, though, i understand. All i ask is that you try.
You must complete the Shared Prayer Grant Application.
How do I apply?
Start by filling out the application on my website.
If you have any questions, please email me through the Contact Me Page or at:
contact@ahighersourcesupply.com
There's more information on The Shared Prayer Page of my website.
Please spread the word if you have a friend or family member who you think would be a good fit for this grant.  At this point i am able to accept one or two recipients a month, maybe more.
Have any ideas?  I am totally open.
Want to help?  You probably can.
Thanks kindly for your support,
Julia
It's very effective.
(Do you use anything on it at all?)
Yes, if you dress it.
And Questions relating to Herb Substitutions
I get emails from time to time from various people who are on a budget inquiring about spell ingredients and spiritual supplies. Some of these questions include the following: Can I substitute this ingredient that I don't have or can't afford? Will the spell work if I leave out the herbs? Can I make this herb blend using just the three herbs I have instead of the five herbs in the spell? I only have enough money to buy a condition oil; can I just skip the herbs or the bath crystals?
These are all really good questions, and I completely sympathize with not having enough money to spend on sometimes-expensive spiritual supplies. So for all of you folks on a budget, I offer several recipes utilizing common household ingredients. Now you can blend your own spell herbs, magical powders, herbal baths, and anointing oils if you so choose. Before I give you the recipes, though, here are some quick answers to those questions I mentioned above.
Can I substitute an ingredient? If you must. Personally, when I create spells or recipes, every herb and/or natural curio has a purpose and is included intentionally. They are like little pieces of a puzzle: "This root brings inner strength; this root soothes emotions; this herb is a sacred healer; this herb promotes clear thinking; this root acts as a Guardian Angel; all together these five plants promote truly holistic healing." This is the process in creating a formula - if you remove one of those botanicals, you're really missing a lot. But if you only have three out of the five herbs, then use the ones you have. If you only have one out of the five herbs, then find another recipe!
Importantly, though, magic must be tempered with practicality. Most casual users don't have a fully stocked curio cabinet. Also, sometimes you need to do the work NOW, no time to order supplies online or make a trip into the city. In these instances you're better off making conscientious substitutions or choosing a recipe that includes ingredients you have on-hand. This is far, far better than the alternative: leaving out botanicals completely (which leads us to the next question).
It can't really hurt to leave the spell herbs/condition oil/sachet powder/bath product out of the spell; right? I mean it's our intention and mental focus that's really doing the work; right? Aren't these things just props? I know these misperceptions are widely perpetuated by certain magical communities, so I don't blame people for repeating and defending the fallacies they're taught - but darn, if this isn't the one family of questions that really annoys me - and, quite frankly, offends me.
This topic truly deserves its own post - maybe later - but for now: YES, it will affect your spell negatively if you leave out the botanical ingredients (the herbs and roots themselves as well as the supplies made with herbs and roots). This is because, put simply, these natural curios: the herbs, flowers, roots, sticks, stones, minerals, and such, have their own spirits. Any person who works with plants spiritually will agree to this - it's not a New Age indulgence. Folks have been working with the spirits of plants for thousands of years; the practice exists in every culture - just Google it!
There are types of magical workings that don't directly utilize the spiritual powers of nature, where the focus is on willpower and mental energy, and those are fine, respectable paths, but it's not hoodoo, it's not folk magic. In those instances then yes, it is then only your intention and mental focus that's doing the work (that has always seemed a little lonely and intimidating to me; I would rather join with and be assisted by Spirit than go it alone, praise God!). Check out creative visualization and psionics if mental-magic is more your cup of tea (and of course, most magical systems are really a blend of techniques as i mention in the next parapgraph).
In sum, the energy or spirit of these botanicals join forces with your energy, your spirit, to help work towards your goal. This is basically how magic is fueled: Divine energy, Spirit energy, natural energy (which is also Spirit energy), and your personal energy - your will, your intent, your positive thinking, and your physical actions. If you pass on including the spell herbs or the herbally-infused spiritual products, you're really short-changing yourself. Plants want to help you - I know I sound like a crazy herb-lady hippie, but I am not making this stuff up. The next time you work with botanical ingredients, hold them in your hand, talk to them, ask for their help, and see what results you get - maybe the topic of an upcoming article, but enough for now.
I'm broke! Help! I can totally sympathize. I also totally get the catch-22 situation some people find themselves in of needing money, needing a job, needing a lot of things, and then having to shell out thirty dollars or more for a spell kit or other spiritual supplies. My one suggestion is to make as few budget cuts as possible regarding natural curio-based supplies: condition oils, herb blends, powders, etc. Try to make your cuts elsewhere: plainer candles, smaller portions, etc. As I stated earlier, your spiritual work will be greatly complemented and strengthened by those botanical helpers. In my opinion it's almost a requirement. Here's some money-saving tips:
Use the simple recipes provided below which incorporate common household ingredients. You probably have many of the components in your pantry right now. Use these recipes to craft your own simple spiritual supplies. Now, your supplies will be a bit rustic - no flashy colors and strong scents - but they'll still be super special and charming. More is not always better when it comes to ingredients, and a nice looking and nice-smelling condition oil does not always mean it's super-powered. Even if you have your doubts about crafting your own simple supplies, it's far, far, far better than the alternative: leaving them out entirely.
Some basic crafting instructions:
Click here for an article detailing how to make an herbal oil infusion - also known as a condition oil.
For a sachet powder substitution: Take the herbs specified in the recipe and grind them in an electric coffee bean grinder. If you want to be all quaint, you can try giving it a go in a mortar and pestle, but many of us herbalists have given up on that years ago. There are certain hard roots and sticks that won't powder up in a coffee bean grinder. You'll need a fancy grist mill for that, but since we're working under the assumption that you don't have the money for a five dollar packet of sachet powder, I'm pretty sure a fancy grist mill is out of the question. Just give those hard, woody bits a good thirty seconds in the coffee bean grinder. It'll still be in big hunks, but certainly some of it got chipped off and its essence added to the powder.  Please do not try to grind stones in a coffee bean grinder.
Also, your grinder will never really be the same afterwards and you may not want to use it for coffee any more. You can try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and also running it through with dried orange peel or rice. You can also attempt to powder stones, roots, and woody plant bits by banging on them with a hammer inside a doubled-up plastic bag. I have heard that the plasticy-fabric envelope-bags that Fed-Ex uses are primo for herb hammering. Remember, though, your herb powder does not have to be as fine as sand; some chunks are fine, in my opinion.
Use the ground up herbs as-is in place of sachet powder in your spell - dust candles with it, sprinkle papers, lay out patterns, sprinkle on the floor, etc. It's also nice to mix a few drops of condition oil with your ground herbs to really juice them up. I will take an empty plastic container, like a clean margarine tub, add my herb powder and a few drops of condition oil, work the oil into the herbs with my fingers, then put the lid on and shake, shake, shake. I will then leave the top cracked slightly so the oil and the herbs have a chance to "marry" but not collect too much moisture. You can use the doctored-up herb powder immediately, though, as needed.
If you just have to have talcum powdery sachet powder (which I understand because that's what I like), then the easiest thing to do is to just add the powdered and oiled herbs to some baby powder. Now, you won't be able to add condition oils directly to the talcum powder - it won't mix - so add your oil to the powdered herbs before mixing with the baby powder. Just add three parts baby powder to one part ground herbs, more or less to your preference (as a note, baby powder is not pure talcum powder, but for our tightwad purposes, it will do just fine). This makes a nice body powder. You can use other powders instead of talc such as flour, cornstarch, and arrowroot powder, but they will go rancid and I don't think flour would be so nice on the skin - fine for sprinkling papers, though.
To make a bath, you have two basic options: make an herbal tea bath or whip up a batch of homemade bath salts. Herbal tea bath is easy: Boil a quantity of water; pour the water into a pitcher or a bowl; add your herbs, roots, etc.; cover with a plate or a lid of some sort; and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain out the plant material, and then use as desired. You can also purchase these neat little muslin drawstring bags which are brilliant for making herb tea baths. They're like little mojo bags - you stuff them with your ingredients and then either float them in a hot bath tub or use them like a big tea bag.
To make bath salts (bath crystals), you first need to make a herb powder as explained above. I will use a plastic container (always save your empty margarine tubs!), add a tablespoon or so of ground herbs, pour in a few drops of condition oil, work the oil into the herb powder, and then I add about one-forth to a half cup of salt. Nowadays I use a mix of somewhat "fancy" salts to make my "professional" Bath Crystals - I have my preference and have experimented enough to know what blend works best, at least for me. To make bath salts in a pinch, though, use what you have on-hand. Kosher salt is great because it is already blessed. Big coarse grains of sea salt is a fantastic choice too because, well, sea salt is nice. Epsom salt has a long history of healing usage and is perfect for a soaking bath. But if all you have is a container of Morton's Iodized Salt, then use that. The smaller the grains of salt, the less you'll need for your bath salts - a half a cup of table salt is an awful lot. Add the salt to your herb and oil blend and shake, shake, shake.
One last note: Please pray over your herbs. Hold them in your hands, run your fingers through them, speak to them, give them love. You may feel strange, but I urge you to do so. If you just can't bring yourself to talking to a root, then pray to God asking for God's blessings over the herbs. Better yet, do both. This is how you "program" your botanicals, and it NEEDS to be done with ALL your natural ingredients as you use them: Each palm-full of condition oil, each pinch of sachet powder, every whole root curio, each tea bag of herb bath, each stone or chunk of resin, each bowl of spell herbs. If I'm making a bath using nine different plants, I will speak to each one individually and then pray over them as a group. It's not fast but it's thorough. The same goes for salt. Someone somewhere said it simply and perfectly: Salt does what you tell it. As I mentioned earlier, this topic will make for a good article. Until then, just remember to speak to your herbs.
And now, without further ado, the recipes:
CO = appropriate for making condition oils,
SP = appropriate for making into a sachet powder
BC = appropriate for making into a bath crystal/salt
HB = appropriate for making into a herb bath
SB = appropriate as spell blend
*For all herbs and peels, please use them dried. The only exception is you may use fresh herbs in a herb bath, but not for any other application - fresh herbs grow mold and moldy spiritual supplies are generally bad!
A Simple Spiritual Cleansing Bath
The Formula of the Month ~ February 2009
LOVE SWEET LOVE
Ah, love...  It's fitting to chose a love oil for February with Valentine's Day and all, but really, love oils are the things people want - along with love spells, love baths, love mojo bags, love amulets, love candles, and well, love advice.  So, to not disappoint, i hereby dub "Love, Sweet, Love" as The Formula of the Month for February 2009.  Hooray!
So what's the Formula of the Month, you ask?  Well, it's a new little promotion i've decided to undertake.  For every Higher Source order over ten dollars placed during this month, i will throw in a 1.5 ml. sample vial of Love, Sweet, Love Condition Oil free of charge (and i know someone will ask so i'll say it up front, please don't ask if you can substitute it out for another formula.  That's just no fun and it's not playing by the rules - The Sacred Formula of the Month Rules, okay?).  In case you don't have a mental visual of what a 1.5 ml. vial looks like, think of those little skinny glass tubes that perfume samples come in - you know the ones with the little plastic dipstick?  My vials are the exact same, but even a tad bigger.  It's really a sizable amount of condition oil, especially considering the price (free!).
Love, Sweet, Love is one of the first formulas i ever created.  I was not so business-minded then, quite ignorant, and i had named this formula Love Potion Number 9.  Well, all was fine for a few years until stupid me put up an eBay auction with my wonderful Love Potion Number 9 for sale.  The auction was up for a few hours before the lawful owner of the name "Love Potion Number 9," quite angered, sent me a very motivated legalese email-letter demanding i take down my auction immediately due to trademark infringement.  Yikes!  Please don't sue the home-brewing rootworker, please!  (i have no money, only stupidity, i'm really truly sorry, please don't sue!!!)  Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh!  I really should have known that name would have been trademarked.  I mean really, Julia, how stupid can you be?  Oh, well.  Needless to say, out of the ashes of *my version* of Love Potion Number 9, Love Sweet Love was born and is here to stay.  Same formula, same oil, different name.  (Oh, and they didn't sue me.  They were actually quite nice.  Apparently this exact thing happens to them all the time , go figure)
Love Sweet Love is a fantastic all-purpose love oil which includes Coriander and Red Clover as two of the nine ingredients.  If you only have money to spend on one love oil, this is a good one for you - you'll get a lot of mileage out of it.  You can use Love Sweet Love to attract a new mate.  You can use it to heat things up and generally enhance your love life.  Love Sweet Love will even work on strengthening an existing relationship.  Good stuff!
Love Sweet Love is sweet-smelling.  People love it and are attracted to its scent like flies, as it has vanilla-sugary overtones with a bit of earthy floral.  But for those who don't want to smell like fresh baked cookies, never fear!  As is the case with all my oils, i scent them with a light touch.  None of my scents are overpowering - they are made to be worn under your usual cologne or perfume without conflict.  Men can wear Love Sweet Love without worry of smelling effeminate.  Now, if you want the scent to be noticeable, just apply the oil more liberally and more often.  You'll find that the little vial is quite portable and lends itself well to touch-ups.
Here's a tip:  Want your home to be infused with a romantic aura?  You know those bamboo diffuser thingys that are so popular now - the flower vase container filled with scented oil that has a bouquet of dowel rod bamboo sticks coming out of it?  Turn that into a magical diffuser.  Add a few drops of Love Sweet Love Condition Oil into the existing oil in the bamboo diffuser - the smells won't compete since you're using just a few drops.  The bamboo rods will slowly and steadily emit the magic of your condition oil creating a tangible vibration of love in the air.  Try it the next time you invite your lover over for dinner *wink wink*
Find a Job Crossroads Spell, plus Mojo Bag
This is a good ol' get-a-job spell with a touch of the crossroads road-opener.  Use it to enhance your prospective job pool, sweeten the opportunites, and find your dream job.
You will need:
Paper job advertisements either cut out of the newspaper or printed off the computer. Pick ads that are representative of the job you desire. If they're computer ads, shrink them down if they are full-sized or cut them down to the important parts. You want the ads small enough to be folded and added to a mojo bag.
A paper copy of your resume
A pen or pencil
An orange taper candle
A sturdy candle holder
A blend of the following herbs in a little bowl: Gravel Root, Salt, and Devil's Shoestring.  You'll need a small handful.
Find A Job Sachet Powder (or if you're broke, take about a spoonful of the herbs listed above and powder them in a coffee bean grinder. The Devil's Shoestring won't powder very well, but give it a go.)
Find a Job Condition Oil
Find A Job Incense Powder (or Crown of Success or Road-Opener), or you can use Benzoin resin which you'll have to burn on charcoal (or if you're broke you can skip the incense).
A single small Lodestone plus Magnetic Sand
Some crossroads dirt which you'll collect yourself during the rite - don't buy some from a vendor.
A small bottle of whiskey
A cloth mojo bag or a piece of cloth and a string
Road-Opener bath product (Bath Crystals, Liquid Bath Soap, Herbal Bath Blend)
(If you'd like to purchase these supplies altogether in a kit, contact me.)
The job:
Prepare your work area, lay out all your supplies, and decorate the area if you desire. Your focus will be on success, opportunity, and prosperity. Read up on working with Lodestones and spiritual bathing if you are a first-timer. Find a crossroads you like. Thursday, Wednesday, or Fridays are good for this working. Mornings and the waxing moon are other auspicious timings, although if you can't wait, that's fine too.
Take a spiritual bath using the Road-Opener bath product. Read this article for more information about how to take a spiritual bath. You will bathe with upward strokes as you speak your heartfelt petition. The 23rd Psalm is fantastic for work such as that. Affirm that God is already providing for your every need and you put this search for a new and fulfilling job in God's hands, that kind of thing. Save a cup of your used bath water and take it with you.
Air-dry, dress in clean clothes, and return to your work area. Get your incense going. State your affirmation out loud. The spell has begun. Clear your mind, focus, pray, meditate, do whatever you need to get in the groove.
Take up your pen and on the back side of your resume write the following:
"My name is [Your Name], and I have the following skills to offer:" Make a list of all the skills you possess, things that would be of use to a prospective employer.
When finished with that list, underneath it, write the following:
"My name is [Your Name], and I am great to work with because:" Make a list of all your positive personality traits which contribute to making you attractive to a prospective employer.
When finished with that list, underneath it write an affirmative statement, summing up your request for employment. Use your name. Be specific but with room for Spirit to work. For example:
"I, June Harris, am happily employed at my dream job: working with animals, enjoying a flexible schedule, with enough pay to meet my needs and wants."
At the very bottom, sign your name. Set your resume down in the middle of your space. Take up the job advertisements and sign your name big right on the middle of them, covering the print. Repeat with every ad. Set them down on a nice little stack on top of the resume.
Take some of your used bath water and wet your hands. Add several drops of Steady Work Condition Oil and mix the two in your hands. Pick up each ad one at a time and hold it between your palms in a prayer pose. Speak your summary statement, pray the 23rd Psalm, or whatever as you hold each ad. Repeat with each ad and then lastly your resume. You want the bath water/oil blend to moisten each piece of paper. You can reapply the water/oil to your hands as necessary. Return the pieces of paper to their neat stack in the center of your space.
With your hands still wet, work the bowlful of herbs between your fingers. You can speak to the spirit of the plants as you do so, asking for their assistance. Add about a teaspoonful of the Find A Job Sachet Powder (or the powdered botanicals) to the herbs and mix with your fingers. Rub a little of this herb powder on each advertisement and on your resume. It will stick and glob on where the paper is damp. That's okay, but you don't want big pasty clumps - a light coating of herb powder is ideal.
Prepare your Lodestone in your normal fashion or by using the suggestions in this article. Name the Lodestone with some helpful name - My Little Job Helper, Gopher, Fetch, whatever. Ask for its assistance in drawing a new wonderful job your way. Anoint the Lodestone with a mixture of your bath water and the Find A Job Condition Oil. Set the Lodestone down square on the center of your job advertisements. Feed it with a pinch of Magnetic Sand.
Carve your candle with your name plus your birth date and a summary of your request. Use the same summary statement if it will fit. Reapply the bath water and condition oil to your hands. Pick up your carved candle and anoint it with upward strokes. Set it down.
Take a pinch of the powdery herb mix into your palm and roll the candle in it getting the powdery bits on the wet candle. Avoid large bits of herbs for candle safety - smaller particles of herbs are safer. Hold the candle in prayer pose between your joined hands, hold it to your heart, and speak your petition. You may move energy into the candle, however you "charge" candles. Prayer is perfect as well.
Set the prepared candle in its candle holder and position the candle holder as near the center of the stacks of advertisements/resume as you can with the Lodestone at its base. Make sure your candle holder is heavy and one of the kinds that holds the candle stub up off of your table. You don't want the candle, when it burns down, to set your papers on fire. See in the photo (which is not a picture of the actual spell, just something I threw together quickly for demonstrative purposes, hence the purple candle and random papers), how the candle holder is both sturdy and holds the candle above the papers.
Sprinkle the herb/powder blend all over your papers and work area.
Get your incense going if need be, say whatever prayers you wish in preparation, and light the candle. Again speak your petition, pray, visualize yourself happily working at your dream job, whatever else you wish. Stay in prayer/meditation while the candle burns down, transmitting positive energy towards your goal. Stay with the candle preferably the entire time, but if you have to leave, then keep it burning somewhere safe (a shower stall or sink) - don't pinch it out.
When the candle has gone out, take the Lodestone and place it into the mojo bag. Add a pinch of Magnetic Sand into the bag. Fold up the advertisements towards you, enclosing any herb powder and candle wax. Add them to the mojo bag. Pick up your resume and gently tap off the large pieces of herbs. You want some of the powdery essence to remain on the paper so don't tap too hard. Add whatever herb and powder comes off the resume to your mojo bag as well as a bit of the candle wax.
Take your resume and fold any remaining spell remnants: candle wax, some of the left-over herbs, incense ashes, into the center of it. It doesn't have to be particularly small. Take this resume packet to your favorite crossroads preferably early in the morning when there are few people around.
Leave your resume packet in the crossroads and pray to the spirits to open employment possibilities for you, to lead you to your dream job, affirming that you trust that God will provide. Tell them that you're leaving your resume with all your good qualities listed so that Spirit can further help you.
Ask for a pinch of crossroads dirt to help you with your goals, to open the way. Add this pinch of crossroads dirt into your mojo bag. Take the bottle of whiskey and pour half of it out over where you took the dirt and over your resume packet. Leave the remaining whiskey in the bottle and leave it at the site as an offering. Walk home without looking back.
Take care of your mojo bag. If you don't know how, here's an article. Feed your Lodestone and keep it loved up.
