Spiritual Bathing Alternatives (or the slacker's how-to)

I am learning that there are just some folks who don't like to take a spiritual bath.  Maybe they don't like rising early; maybe they don't like pouring small quantities of water over them; no one i know, myself included, likes air-drying, expecially in the winter, but i also like to get magical results, so to me it's worth it.

But there are folks for whom spiritual bathing is an absolute deal-breaker.  They can't be talked into doing it, not interested, just will not do it.  So after giving them a little prodding, if they still stand fast, i give them these alternatives.  Maybe i'm doing a disservice to my craft, yes, i know there's good reasons for traditional practices and i do not wish to re-write hundreds/thousands year-old spiritual practices, but, well, i have, sort of.  So here's what i offer as second-best alternatives to the typical spiritual bathing rites.  If anyone has their own techniques, i'd love to hear them.

1)  For those unfortunate souls who do not have a bathtub, myself included (why would someone remove a bathtub in a one-bathroom house and instead install a huge shower stall?  People NEED bath tubs!  Right?  Any way...), here's how i've adapted (for those of you who have a bath tub, you lucky ducks, make sure to be grateful, paying respect to all those who don't ;-).  Now, i don't know about you, but i don't really like standing in a big, awkward galvanized steel wash basin.  I have one, but other than intital attempts at being quaint, i use it mostly as an ice chest for parties and get-togethers, not as an old-fashioned bath tub.  i find it unweildy to use, to schlep it into the shower stall, stand in with my feet crammed together, unschlep it out of the shower stall, you get the idea.  So since i don't have a tub to collect my bathwater for ritual disposal and i don't really like using the wash basin, i came up with this technique (for all i know this may not be all that brilliant of a technique and may be widely used, i don't know, but i felt like a genius when i implemented it the first time).

I make up a batch of bath water in my usual fashion.  This can be tea or dissolved bath crystals, blessed water, liquid soap, whatever.  I have a large glass pitcher that is quite large with a big, open mouth that i use.  Beforehand you want to buy or designate a special wash cloth to use only for spiritual bathing.  I guess you don't have to keep one special, but that's what i do.  I have a nice linen-like, white, hand towel that i use.  Take your container of water, your wash cloth, and yourself to your shower (or shower stall) and proceed to bathe.  I won't go into a how-to here; i have written about it before and there are many better articles existing in cyberspace, so suffice it to say, let's assume you know the basics on how to take a spiritual bath.

Wha's different, though, is you use your wash cloth to wet your body with - you don't dump the whole quantity of prepared bath water over yourself (although you can, and i have, start the bath by pouring a quantity over yourself).  You dip your wash cloth into the container of bath water, get it good and sopping, and then wet and rub your body with it either working upwards or downwards.  You then squeeze out the wash cloth back into the pitcher, re-wet the wash cloth, and repeat your desired amount of times.  I find this serves two puposes: geting your body wet with the fixed bath and allowing time to pray as well as conserving used bathwater for you to dispose of later.  What's important here is that you squeeze out the wash cloth back into the bath water container after every repetition, thus no standing in the awkward wash basin - for me at least.  If this method is not clear, feel free to message me with any questions.

2)  And there still are folks who won't even do the wash cloth method.  They are just pleading for you to tell them that they can take a regular, sit-down, immersion bath.  I personally don't think this is a fully-acceptable substitution, but others may disagree and i do think it's better than doing no bathing, so i reluctantly offer up this technique (although, if you're really desperate for results, i don't think it's a good time to be cutting corners, but then, what do i know ;-).

Fill up your bath tub with water (Note that this bath is a purely spiritual one.  Do not wash your hair, your body, and then oh, wait, take a spiritual bath.  If you're dirty, take a shower separately, then proceed with the spiritual bath).  Add your bathing product, be it bath crystals, a muslin bag of herbs, or a liquid soap product.  Pray over the entire bath tub of water.  I run my hands through the water as i'm praying, squeeze the bag of herbs if you're using one, and i finish it with a squirt of holy water, whatever holy water means to you, or skip the holy water, whatever.  Then step into the bath, fully immerse yourself, or if you don't want to get your hair wet, immerse yourself up to your hair.  Stand up immediately  (being careful not to slip), and run your hands either down or up your body washing yourself with an emphatic command such as "Remove the desire to smoke cigarettes from off of me!" or "I am irresistable and sexually appealing," whatever your bath's purpose was.  Then dunk yourself again, stand up and wash yourself, and repeat a certain number of times - i usually do this seven or nine times (or i used to do this when i ha a proper bath tub!).  Once done washing, you don't linger and luxuriate in the bath.  You get out, air dry, and reserve a quantity of bathwater to dispose of later.

3)  While i don't recommend this method as your only spiritual bathing practice, i do think it's outstanding to use in between baths to keep the magic on you.  Some suppliers (myself not included but message me for recommendations) make liquid spiritual soaps.  These are typically castile-based (think Dr. Bronners Magic All-One liquid soap with herbs and condition oils added) and can be nicely dilluted by a quantity of plain soap like the aformentioned brand or another liquid body soap or even Ivory soap.  Most of these are highly concentrated and can be dilluted with water and you really only need a smidge to soap up your entire body.

This is how i use these products to do a spiritual touch-up in my shower.  I take a normal shower, and as the last thing i do being already physically clean, i use a liquid spiritual soap.  I put a dab in the palm of my hand and i quickly pray over it and ask the herbs in the soap for their help.  I then work the soap into a lather by rubbing my hands together and then i stroke my body with it an odd number of times either up or down while stating my petition.  I finish with a restorative prayer or affirmation while the water runs over me washing me spiritually clean.

My usual routine is with a spiritual cleansing soap product, so i would be stroking downward saying "Remove worry from me, remove residual anger or hurt from me, remove back pain from me," etc., going down the laundry list of conditions i am cleansing off of me.  I will also use a protection bath soap from time to time, this time bathing upwards while speaking my protection needs.  I do this routine at least weekly, and it serves me well.  I really and tangibly feel the difference, and it effectively stretches out the time in between spiritual baths, although this is only for situations that are not chronic and severe: remember this is a touch-up.  If your personal situation is severe, i would not space out the time periods between traditional spiritual baths; i would still take them as prescribed, but i would also add in this quick touch-up bath intermittantly as well.

Any way, there's some thoughts on spiritual bathing.  For me it is very worthwhile and powerful spiritual work.  If you have any other adaptations and/or techniques, i'd love to hear about them.

Spiritual Bathing - A Brief How-To

A BRIEF "HOW-TO" FOR SPIRITUAL BATHING AND THE USE OF BATH CRYSTALS

SPIRITUAL BATHING
One of the most common magical treatments a spiritual worker will prescribe to their clients are spiritual baths. A spiritual bath is usually taken before, after, and/or during magical work. Sometimes a series of spiritual baths is the only work a client or practitioner will do for themselves, as it is effective spiritual and magical work all by itself.

TYPES OF BATH PRODUCTS
Spiritual baths come in three common forms: the all-herbs and roots bath, the all-mineral, and the combination herb and mineral bath. Many workers make their own bath products, but there are a few companies out there that make excellent baths for sale to the general public. All bath products should contain a noticeable amount of botanical ingredients - they should NOT be only dyed, perfumed Epsom salts or dyed, perfumed liquid detergent; those kind of cheap products contain very little magical properties, if any.

All-herb baths should contain an assorted variety of fresh-smelling plant material. While the herbs may be chopped up, the mixture should not resemble ground-up green and brown stuff. You should be able to pick out recognizable ingredients, if included, such as rose petals, lavender, and other flower petals, depending on the particular bath blend. Most all-herb baths come with a reusable muslin sack, or they come in tea bags for you to steep the herbs in your bathwater.

High-quality herb and mineral Bath Crystals are a blend of salt, botanical ingredients, and condition oil. They usually come lightly tinted and fragranced. Again, you should be able to see chopped up herbs. Unfortunately, many large companies who offer these traditional products take short cuts, and you end up with regular old scented bath salts with a magical name that cost twice as much as the bath salts sold at the drug store. When shopping around, buy small quantities to ensure you don't waste money on poor quality goods. Don't despair, though, because there are some fantastic suppliers out there who make top-notch baths, oils, incenses, and powders. Just be careful and ask questions.

WHEN SHOULD YOU TAKE A SPIRITUAL BATH?
If you have read the different types of spiritual supplies that I and others make, you would have noticed the unique names and the various purposes they help with. The same is true for all the hoodoo products: condition oils, sachet powders, incenses, and floor washes. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of different recipes depending on the maker. You run the gamut of products for love, money, luck, health, protection, success, employment, family, marriage, religion, psychicism, divination, spiritual cleansing, saints, gods, the list goes on and on and on!

A spiritual worker may have thirty-plus recipes on-hand for his clients. Let's say one of her products is entitled "Wash Clean of Sin" and is used to cleanse yourself of bad habits, bad deeds, and the negativity/problems of others. This worker will undoubtedly offer Wash Clean of Sin Condition Oil, Wash Clean of Sin Sachet Powder, W.C.S. Incense, and W.C.S. Bath Crystals. Although they are all quite different products, they are all made from the same "mother" ingredients. You would use the Wash Clean of Sin Bath Crystals alone or in conjunction with other magical work that typically employ other Wash Clean of Sin products.

Most folks take a spiritual bath to signify the beginning of magical work. Let's say you were doing a seven-day candle spell that required lighting portions of a candle every morning for seven mornings in a row. Lots of people would take a spiritual bath at least on the first and last day of the spell, if not take one every morning before starting. In this manner, spiritual baths help adjust your mindset, give an opportunity for prayer, and they infuse your body with their magical properties.

Folks also take spiritual baths to prepare for a situation. One might take a love bath before a date with their lover. A person might take a protective bath in preparation for a dangerous/negative event. A quarreling couple might take a reconciliation bath to soothe their hurt feelings, etc., etc. By taking a bath in this manner, you take time for self-reflection and prayer; you also are performing powerful work by releasing the magic contained in the botanicals and imbuing your body with it.

HOW TO TAKE A SPIRITUAL BATH
You take a spiritual bath differently than a regular bath. A regular bath is taken to clean your body and to take a relaxing soak; a spiritual bath is taken for magical and spiritual purposes. Thus, it makes sense that spiritual bathing requires a different technique.

Baths are taken according to the time of the day. When your need involves things for increase and gain, such as more love, money, growth, renewal, you take your bath before daybreak. In this manner your need rises with the sun. When your need involves diminishing, lessening, or removal, you take your bath at sundown.

To prepare a spiritual bath using bath crystals, you fill your tub with only about six inches of water. This is not a soaking and soaping bath; if you are especially dirty, take a shower beforehand. If you only have a shower stall and no tub, purchase one of those old aluminum wash basins to take your spiritual baths in. You will truly be keeping true to tradition using one of those! Alternatively, use a large plastic storage tub or a dish basin. Add the warm water and a small handful of the bath crystals (about 2-3 Tablespoons). State your petition/intent and/or pray as you swish the crystals in the bath until they're dissolved. Undress and step into the tub. You will wash your body upwards or downwards depending on the purpose of the bath. Again, for a need involving gain and increase, wash up from feet to head. For something involving decrease or removal, wash downwards from head to feet. Use your hands to cup the water on you or use a wash cloth. You will bathe your body completely for a certain number of times as directed by a spell or worker. If no repetitions are given, wash an odd number of times, usually seven or nine times.

It is important to pray sincerely during these washings while visualizing your desired outcome. Some folks chant or recite Psalms. When finished with the prescribed number of washings, step out and air dry. Pray while you air dry. If you decide you can't wait to air dry and use a towel, you will be wiping the magic and help off of your skin and basically undoing some of the bath. If you can't bear the idea of air drying, don't take a spiritual bath.

While you are waiting to dry, scoop a bowlful of your used bath water out of the tub and save it either to be employed in spell work or to be disposed of ritually. Once dry, dress in clean clothes and carry the bowl of your bath water to one of two places: your front door or the nearest crossroads. You would pour out your bath water over your front door step to draw things closer to you such as new love, more money, peace, etc. You would use the crossroads for anything you don't wish to draw closer, to get rid of something, or to drive someone away. The traditional method of tossing your bath water is to walk to your destination in complete silence, offer a prayer once you arrive, turn your back to either the setting or rising sun, and toss the water over your left shoulder. Walk back home silently and without looking back.

OTHER USES OF BATH CRYSTALS
~ Use them as Floor Wash
Use Bath Crystals to cleanse your house and/or magically infuse it with whatever it is you want ( or don't want) and need. Some examples: Peaceful Home Bath Crystals for household harmony, Blessing for a new home or family addition, Fiery Wall of Protection to keep your family safe, Money Stay With Me to protect your financial interests, the list goes on and on.
To use a floor wash:
First, clean your home thoroughly - this is a spiritual and magical cleaning, not a dirt and grime cleaning. Empty a small handful of bath crystals in a 1/2 bucket of warm water. Swish your hand in the water until the crystals are dissolved; while you do so pray for whatever it is you need for your home. Mop your floor in the following manner: Upstairs-back of the house mopping forward, the stairs from top moving down, the downstairs-back of the house mopping forward towards the front door. Now, the front door step/stairs/porch, etc.: if you are cleaning your house to draw, attract, for gain, increase, mop your front walkway moving from the sidewalk mopping toward your front door all the way to the threshold. If your need includes repelling, diminishing, banishing, mop from the threshold of your house, moving out towards the sidewalk. Pray while you do so; Psalm 23 is perfect. Adjust this and improvise as necessary depending on your individual door step. Dispose of the use wash water in the same way described above with the used bath water.
If you have wall-to-wall carpeting, wash in the same manner, but use a rag to wash any wooden, metal, or tiled part of your home: the doorjambs, wooden edging, radiators, baseboards, bathrooms, kitchens, etc. Finish the job by burning a spiritual cleansing incense in each room.

~ Add Bath Crystals to Rinse Water

Add a small amount of bath crystals to the final rinse cycle in the washing machine to impart magical properties to your clothes or, sneakily, the clothes of another. Try Stay With Me for a wandering spouse, Crown of Success to have a favor granted, or Find A job before you go out interviewing.

Using Condition Oils

MAGICAL AND SPIRITUAL TECHNIQUES

USING CONDITION OILS

I. WHAT ARE CONDITION OILS?

Condition Oils are a staple supply in many magical and spiritual traditions. Typically they are natural oils, infused with herbs and other botanical ingredients, fragranced with essential oils, and lightly tinted. Unfortunately, authentic condition oils are hard to come by as very few distributors take the time and effort required to make genuine products. What you find instead are colored, scented mineral oils with no natural or botanical ingredients in them at all. With these imposter oils there is no naturally occurring magic in them; you are simply paying a premium price for the traditional name these fake oils are bestowed with.

In root work, as well as most other systems of natural magic, the power and efficacy of spiritual supplies such as condition oils comes from two sources: the practitioner and the natural material used as ingredients. Furthermore, in root work it is a widespread belief that the Universe created these herbs perfect as they are, ready to be used, as is, to help you obtain your needs and desires. No fancy ritual is needed to "charge" the herbs, no particular ancient incantation needs to be recited over them, nothing. They are perfect and complete in and of themselves. This explains why skeptical people with no magical training can have great success using root work even without fully believing in it. It is the magic that is naturally contained in the herbs, roots, and minerals that is doing most of the work. Now, don't get me wrong - experience, sincere prayer, visualization, and positive thinking really do go far. They combine with the power of the botanicals for extra strength, but it is not required, although I still recommend you do so.

With all that being said, if your condition oils have no herbs and roots in them, either infused in the oil or loose in the bottle, they are not magical. The only reason these imposters can sometimes be used successfully is because of the belief and sincere prayer of the user. If you want to use condition oils that posses their own power, you need to look around to find authentic ones. Most wholesale and large-scale manufacturers don't offer legit condition oils. Real root workers who do work for clients typically make their own condition oils properly, but a root worker can be hard to find as they usually don't advertise on the Internet or in the classifieds. To my knowledge, other than my own business, there is only one other provider of authentic oils out there easily found through a search engine. If you come across some condition oils and you are considering purchasing them, look for botanical material floating in the bottle. That is the only way you can know for sure that there are any natural ingredients at all in the oils. Also another give-away is the price of the oils. Herbs, roots, and minerals are expensive. Properly assembled and prayed-over oils take time to make. A skilled root worker who makes outstanding oils should also be compensated for her or his handiwork, and therefore, the price will reflect it. Expect to pay around five to seven dollars for a 1/2 ounce of condition oil.

My Condition Oils are made righteously using traditional recipes and authentic ingredients. Each and every bottle has been prayed over at least three separate times: while blending the herbs, while the oils infuse, and while bottling (herbal oil is receptive - add your own prayers during use to boost their strength and personalize the oil's power). The oils I make for my clients are made to the exact specifications as the oils I make for my own use. The Conjure Lady's Condition Oils are painstakingly handmade in small batches using lovingly and organically grown herbs raised by myself and by my most excellent supplier. Since my condition oils are not machine bottled at some factory, they may vary ever so slightly from batch to batch. I use essential oils in all of my products as fragrance, and when possible, I use natural dyes. The base oil is a natural vegetable-based oil which has a nearly indefinite shelf life. I know you will be able to see and sense the quality and love that goes in to each and every bottle of my condition oils.

II. HOW TO USE CONDITION OILS

Condition Oils can be used in a myriad of ways except, of course, internally! Here is a brief outline of their most common uses.

Dress candles, petition papers, and money

Use condition oils to anoint candles when burning them for devotion, religious or ancestral offerings, and spiritual practices. If you have a practical need such as more money or a new lover, choose a condition oil that complements that desire, and anoint a candle with it. When you burn the candle, the magic contained in the oil is dispersed into the Universe to help create the circumstances and opportunities for you to meet your goals.

A petition paper is a brief need or prayer written out on a small piece of paper. Choose a condition oil that closely matches your need, and dress the four corners and edges of your petition paper. Burn this wish, place it under a candle, or set it aside in a special place such as an altar or a mojo bag. The condition oil will activate the petition paper and speed along your request.

Dressing money with a condition oil such as Money Stay With Me! or Money Come To Me! is an age-old magical practice. Have you ever found paper money with someone's name written on it? That is because that person fixed the money with condition oil, thus creating magical "hunting" money - money that will go out in circulation and hunt-up more money to return to the practitioner. I offer a spell kit entitled Money Stay With Me! Spell Kit which provides you with all of the supplies and detailed instructions to perform this work yourself. A very abbreviated version of creating fixed money is to sign your name over the signature of the Treasurer on the bottom right and left of the bill, and then anointing the edges and corners of your money with one of the two money oils named above. I guarantee you will notice a difference if you fix all of your paper money daily.

Dress hands, head, or use as a perfume

Rub a small amount of condition oil into your hands to gently influence yourself or others. Say you make a living using your hands and selling your handiwork. You could use Steady Work Condition Oil to help assure you stay in business. If you are about to go on a date with someone you fancy, rub a small amount of Love Me Condition Oil on your right hand. When you shake your date's hand, you will be doing some very subtle love-work on her/him.

Anoint the third eye chakra (in between your eyes on the top bridge of your nose) with a wisdom oil such as King Solomon's Wisdom Condition Oil before taking a test. Use Psychic Vision Oil in the same manner before meditating, doing trance or dream work, or divination. Crown of Success Condition Oil is applied to the forehead and top of the head whenever you are in need of a little extra success. You anoint your head and speak "May all my Endeavors be Crowned with Success."

Another very common use of condition oils is as a magical perfume. If you are not terribly fond of the way a particular oil smells, or if you think it doesn't mix well with your regular perfume, add just a touch to your pulse points (if it is a love oil, anoint your breasts and/or genitals lightly as well), and then spray over it with your regular cologne or perfume. It doesn't matter how much you wear - just that you wear it.

Dress wood or metal furniture

Rub condition oils onto any household item that won't be damaged by oil. Wipe Love Stay With Me Condition Oil onto your mate's bedside table to encourage fidelity and lasting love. Anoint your office desk with Shut Up! Oil to keep you immune from malicious gossipers. Rub your front door threshold and window frames with Fiery Wall of Protection Condition Oil to help protect your family and keep troublesome people away from your house.

Feed Mojo Bags or Lodestones

Traditionally, condition oils are used to "feed" both Mojo Bags and Lodestones to keep them working strong. Use a complementary oil that suits the work your Lodestones and Mojo is employed for. Anoint a Lodestone on a love-drawing altar with Love Come To Me Condition Oil. Feed a money-Lodestone with Money Come to Me or Money Stay With Me Condition Oil. Dress the corners of a Man's Master and Commander Mojo Bag plus dress the larger roots with an oil for personal strength and magnetism such as Follow Me Girl!, Crown of Success, Kiss Me Now!, or Master and Commander. The Conjure Lady's Mojo Bags - both the Deluxe and Original bags - come with a complementary vial of matching Condition Oil to feed the mojo with.

Add to baths and floor washes

If you are ever without Bath Crystals and want to take a spiritual bath or make up a magical floor wash, condition oils substitute quite nicely. The water will not be as fragrant or as colored as it would if you were using Bath Crystals, but condition oils will accomplish the same goal. Just add a few drops to the bath water or mop bucket, say a prayer over it, and proceed as usual. Try a bath with Red Fast Luck before going gambling, wash your floors and wooden moldings with Peaceful Home, and bathe with Happy Heart and Soul when you need a lift.

Mix with Incense Powders and herbs to burn as incense

If you are ever in need of some magical incense, you can doctor the plain old regular incense you have with condition oils to get the job done. You can also create custom blends mixing the two. Let's say you have some sandalwood incense which is good for peace of mind and domestic harmony. You could add a few drops of Attraction Oil to the sandalwood to add the oil’s properties of drawing money, love, and luck into your home. Condition Oils may be added to both loose incense and stick incense; you just need to use a light touch to prevent the mix from getting too wet. Dried herbs may also have condition oils added to them to increase their power, or you could combine all three: Incense Powder, dried herbs, and condition oils for a very magically potent incense.

Have fun working with condition oils. I am positive you will find it a worthwhile practice. Julia
